Between 25th and 27th May 2019, our Guernsey depot had the pleasure of hosting Compassion UK, a charity that runs an interactive exhibition designed to allow visitors to experience what life is like for children living in poverty.
About Compassion UK
A leading children’s charity, Compassion UK aims to release children from poverty and help them to help themselves as they reach adulthood through sponsorship programmes. Working in 25 countries across the world throughout Africa, Asia, Central and South America, the charity’s travelling interactive exhibition is designed to give the general public an eye-opening opportunity to witness the living conditions of children in third world countries.
How did Ferryspeed get involved?
Ferryspeed general manager, Martyn Langlois, is an active supporter and ambassador for the charity, and suggested the exhibition come to Guernsey to help raise awareness. At 200 square meters, it was no mean feat to find somewhere suitable to set up, which is where Ferryspeed were able to help. With a 4,500 square meter site close to St Peter Port, the island’s capital, not only was there plenty of space, but it was also a fantastic central location to gain maximum exposure for the charity.
The exhibition
Journeying through the homes of a child from Ethiopia and another from Uganda, visitors are fully submerged into their lives, with the exhibition effectively showcasing the sights, sounds and smells of the country. Not only were visitors given the opportunity to discover what life is like for these children, they also were able to see how they progressed through the charity’s programme; from childhood to adulthood, and in turn, from poverty to opportunity.
A rewarding and successful weekend
The weekend in Guernsey was a wonderful success, with a massive 76 sponsorship programmes set up with the charity. Each and every sponsorship goes a long way to helping those in need, and Ferryspeed are delighted to have been able to assist Compassion UK in their ongoing mission.
