Training gets underway at the Ferryspeed academy

Staff across Ferryspeed’s depots are tapping into a host of training opportunities thanks to the launch of a new Academy.
Following a partnership with Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance (HABC), one of the top 10 awarding organisations in the UK, Ferryspeed can now provide accredited training in food safety and HACCP (hazard analysis and critical control points).
Ferryspeed staff can access a number of HABC training programmes through in-house tutors, including Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Manufacturing (QCF), Level 2 Award in HACCP for Manufacturing and Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling (QCF).
The Ferryspeed Academy also offers a host of in-house training courses including ITSSAR certified ride-on pallet training, ADR training and Fire Marshall training.
Ferryspeed said, “We’re very proud to have launched the Ferryspeed Academy and to have such a wealth of subjects and courses on offer to our staff.
“The training academy ethos is now very much a part of the Ferryspeed Group and we’re delighted that the Academy is up and running across all of our depots. Staff are able to gain both professional qualifications and hands-on experience, and the response to date has been extremely positive,”.
In Jersey, a team is working with local colleges to identify training and apprenticeship opportunities. The depot has recently acquired a HIAB Lorry Loader and there are five staff trained and qualified to NPORS ISO 9001 standard.
As part of the Academy, Ferryspeed provides staff with certificated forklift truck and pedestrian pallet truck training. Around 10 Guernsey staff and approximately 60 Jersey staff have successfully completed the training to date.
The Jersey depot recently conducted a full evacuation drill and in Guernsey, training for new fire marshals and the provision of first aid training has been completed.
