Who are Palletways, and how are they connected to Ferryspeed?

Founded in 1994, Palletways is Europe's largest and fastest growing provider of express distribution for small consignments of palletised goods, currently handling in excess of 21,000 pallets per day.

The Palletways distribution network comprises over 280 local depots and hub operations, operated by independent and established logistics companies nationwide. Palletised freight is collected by a local depot close to you and delivered by a depot close to your customer, ensuring fast reliable service.

Ferryspeed is the local depot for the PO postcode area.  Our partnership with Palletways means that our customers benefit from the innovations and economies of scale offered by Europe’s largest and most geographically-comprehensive pallet network, whilst continuing to receive personal account management from our local Customer Services team here in Portsmouth.

How does the collection and delivery cycle work?

Having collected our customers’ palletised freight throughout the day, Ferryspeed delivers these goods into the central Palletways hub facilities in Lichfield and London overnight, where they are processed through the 350,000 square feet hub operation utilising Palletways’ bespoke IT system. As they are unloaded from our vehicle, the pallets are sorted by the hub teams into designated delivery areas.

The Palletways Member responsible for each designated delivery postcode collects the pallets placed in their areas, and transports them back to their local depot.   Bar-code technology and a consignment Track and Trace facility monitor all consignments, with on-line proof of delivery available by midnight on the day of delivery.

How do I arrange a collection from our premises?

If your requirement is fairly rare or infrequent, please call us on 023 9262 7067 as and when required to arrange the collection of your pallets and payment via a credit or debit card.

Customers with a regular collection requirement can either email the details of their consignments to palletways@ferryspeed.com, or send their requests across to us via the online Palletways Portal – please contact us for further details.

What is the latest cut-off time to request a collection?

In terms of collections from your own premises, we do not specify an exact cut off time, as we appreciate that late orders can sometimes arise which require urgent action!  However, we ask customers to give us a good idea of collection volumes by around 2pm – either by email, or via the Palletways Portal. We will then ensure that we send a vehicle to you which has enough capacity for your consignments.

In order to arrange a same-day collection from your customer or a third party, please notify us before 11am, in order that we can arrange for the collecting depot to complete the collection on your behalf.

What is the latest collection time?

In terms of collection times, we can be fairly flexible. Most customers require an afternoon collection (between 1pm and 5.30pm), but we are happy to collect outside of these times (within reason) given enough notice.

What are your standard delivery hours?

Palletways' deliveries are typically completed between 8am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, and between 8am and midday on a Saturday.

Do you offer a timed or Saturday delivery service?

Timed and Saturday delivery services are provided in most areas (UK and Europe), although pre-noon deliveries may not be available in more geographically remote locations. Should you have any queries regarding our premium delivery services, please contact us on 023 9262 7067.

Is there a surcharge for tail lift deliveries?

The Palletways network does not impose a surcharge for tail lift delivery. Should you require a tail lift delivery, please ensure that you advise us of this when inputting the request on the Palletways Portal, or when emailing details of the request across.

What are your standard pallet dimensions?

Do you offer the facility to manage oversize or 'ugly' freight?

Yes, much of the freight carried by the Palletways network is outside the standard pallet dimensions.  Please contact us or call us on 023 9262 7067 for further details, or to obtain a quotation.

Will you transport non-palletised freight?

All items to be transported through the Palletways network must be palletised.  However, should you have a specific requirement for the movement of non-palletised freight, please contact us – we may be able to provide a solution via our own Ferryspeed fleet.

What insurance coverage do you provide?

All goods transported through the Palletways network are carried in accordance with RHA and CMR Conditions of Carriage, and are therefore insured at a minimum of £1,300 per tonne. Enhanced insurance cover is available for higher-value freight – please contact the Palletways team on 023 9262 7067 for further details.

Do you offer the facility to transport hazardous freight?

The Palletways network transports limited quantities of hazardous goods. However, a full ADR service is provided through our own Ferryspeed fleet – please contact us for more information.
